All the best jokes start in bars. Some of our best anecdotes start with a drink, as do half our relationships and possibly just as many of our breakups. We pop corks to celebrate and we cry into wine.
And drink is one of opera’s most popular characters. It pops up all over the place – in dimly lit cellars, at extravagant cocktail parties and as bottles of poison. We’re recreating opera’s best drinking moments and throwing them all together in one big cocktail of a performance. It’s opera, but getting a drink is actively encouraged.
Opera Walks Into a Bar is an event hosted by British Youth Opera, showcasing their singers in Peckham's CLF Art Cafe.
YPIA are hosting some drinks before the event, followed by the show. Join us at the Bussey Building from 6:15pm, and the show will start at 7:30pm.
