Activism, ethics, and the arts dilemma: a blame-free discussion | 14th May 2019 | 7pm

Location: Jerwood Space, 171 Union Street, London SE1 0LN

We are delighted to be teaming up with our colleagues at  Young Arts Fundraisers to bring you our next event, where we will be presenting a debate on ethics, activism and fundraising.

Arts organisations have always been under scrutiny when it comes to their partnerships, donors' relationships, and external relations. The recent rise in global activism has contributed to heightened expectations, with public opinion asking for arts organisations to show exemplary ethical leadership. Through this discussion, we'll be asking the question on everyone's minds - are the arts responsible for social change?

Fundraising is at the centre of this question, and increasingly, organisations are implementing, strengthening, and reviewing ethics committees and gift policies. We'll not only debate what ethical fundraising policies might be, but how these are achievable, financially sustainable and, ultimately, do they matter?

The evening will start off with a discussion on best practice in fundraising, before widening the debate to explore activism and ethics in arts organisations, led by our seasoned speakers:

The event will be chaired by  Fanny Guesdon, Co-Founder and Director of Young Arts Fundraisers, and will operate under the Chatham House Rule so we can have an open and honest discussion about one of the most challenging topics in the arts.

Doors open at 6:30pm and the event will run from 7-8.30pm.
